GENERATION INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT
AIRW1, 20 AIR STREET, LONDON
WILL WITH PERKINS+WILL
Will’s team was chosen to fit-out and relocate Generation Investment Management (“Generation”) to a top floor office in what was the old Regent Palace Hotel, now called AirW1.
Generation is a privately owned sustainable investment company with offices in London and New York. The firm was co-founded in 2004 by Al Gore and David Blood. Generation’s vision is to embed sustainability into the mainstream capital markets, their core values reflect commitment to responsible citizenship and the design team strived for these values to be reflected in the end product. The aim was to provide a highly sustainable and high performing space that would communicate Generation’s vision, culture and values to clients and employees alike.
From the outset, sustainability was a high priority and the team had to work closely together to minimise the carbon footprint of chosen materials, processes and equipment. The project contains significant research within sustainable subject specialism seeking alternative products to those that are harmful to humans, animals and the environment. It was about the best choices, with real lasting impact, not earning points. The credit points achieved far exceeded the requirements for Ska Gold.
As important as sustainability, was the requirement to promote staff wellbeing and provide each team and individual with the right work settings. The design team interviewed individual staff members to get desk and ancillary space right. The “We” space was tailored to the teams, and the "I" space to the individual.
